ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya
A five days training programme on “Operation and Maintenance of Improved Farm Tools & Equipment” was conducted at Agricultural Engineering, DSRE, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya which was scheduled during 16th -20th March 2026. The training programme was organized by AICRP on FIM centre, Agricultural Engineering, Division of System Research and Engineering in collaboration with the Farmers FIRST Project, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya. The primary purpose of this training was to empower local farmers and youth with practical skills to operate and maintain advanced farm tools suited to the hilly terrains and climatic challenges of Northeast India. Its key aims included enhancing farmers' comfort by reducing drudgery in farm operations, boosting overall productivity through efficient mechanization, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and fostering occupational health and safety by demonstrating ergonomic tool usage. Participants were demonstrated improved farm tools/equipment i.e., power tiller, power weeder, their different attachments, different hand tools/equipment for hill agriculture. This was followed by practical hand-on in the farms. A total of 15 farmers/youth nominated from Lawsohtun Farmers association, have actively participated the training programme. It was successfully organized and coordinated by Dr. N. Uttam Singh, Dr. Hijam Jiten Singh, Dr. H. Dayananda Singh and Er. Ajaykumar Kethavath.
